Vocational rehabilitation
I support workers and employers to navigate return to work after an illness or injury. Retaining existing employment is beneficial for both the employee and the employer when this is achievable. This is often possible through sharing knowledge about a condition, and some simple adjustments to the environment, task or role.
Returning to work after a stroke or brain injury can be a worrying time for both employer and employee. This may involve a graded return, adaptations to the task, role or environment, education for employers or colleagues, or changes to elements of the role. Occupational therapy can ensure the right support is given to get someone back to work at the right time and in the right way. A collaborative approach, involving therapist, employer and employee, will foster a calm and effective adjustment period, with open communication to get the best result for everyone.
As an employer you may need help with:
-
Making adjustments to your environment, for instance lighting, desk set up, or use of technology
-
Adapting a work role to play to an individuals strengths
-
Supporting individuals to decide if, when, and how to disclose information about their condition
-
Educating line mangers (and the wider team in some instances) on a condition or set of symptoms.
I can help you
Ways this can be achieved:
-
Desk and workplace assessments
-
Return to work schedules
-
Equipment assessment
-
Adapting areas of the office
-
Educating colleagues to support the transition.
